The Forgotten Anniversaries
By Matthew Jones
September 2006 brings us two very different anniversaries which are tied together in a very intense way. On September 11, 2006, we mark the five year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country. Nearly 3,000 people were brutally murdered by the hands of Islamic -- the religion of peace? -- terrorists. This anniversary will be marked by vigils across the country. Undoubtedly, and rightfully so, the press will cover these events.
The President himself may address the country. The question we must ask is this: Will the government celebrate by announcing the capture of Osama Bin-Laden?
That is highly unlikely given the recent revelation that the government entity responsible for tracking and capturing OBL has been disbanded. Has our own government forgotten? While pursuing an unconstitutional war in Iraq, our own government has seemingly forgotten who orchestrated the attacks in the first place. While casualties mount in Iraq -- to prop up their "democracy"....at least I think that is what the war is about now -- OBL walks free.
September 17, 2006, we will celebrate the 219th anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America. This anniversary will probably not get that much coverage.
There are groups of constitutionalists who mark the anniversary, but there is no longer much hype. The truth is, our Constitution does not mean much to those in power. Our elected officials may swear to uphold it, but how many have actually read it?
The government will not celebrate Constitution Day. They will go on with business as usual: tapping the phone lines of law-abiding citizens, searching Grandmother before she gets on the plane, stealing that family farm so a shopping center can be built, removing that 10 Commandments bust from that government building, threatening that Church with the IRS following a politically-charged sermon, building that super-highway from Mexico to Canada -- visit the site at www.nascocorridor.com for more info -- while telling us they are tough on the border, forbidding that scared rape victim from carrying a concealed handgun because it is "illegal" in that city, etc...
Need I go on? The government spits on our Constitution every day. This is not my opinion; this is fact. The only government action regarding 9-11 is to use it as a hammer to chip away our constitutional liberties.
What are constitutionalists to do? We need to clean house. All incumbents must go. Those who are in an off-year need to be hammered until they remember to celebrate both anniversaries. They first need to read the US Constitution, then they need to spring into action. We must do the same.
If you have never actually read the Constitution, you can download it at www.constitutionparty.com.
Read it from cover to cover and then begin to look at our government's actions. You will see that almost every single action the federal government takes is not authorized by the Constitution. This includes giving our president the authority to declare war -- exactly what happened with Iraq. Do not let this month pass without taking action.
If we continue to allow our government to rip up the Constitution, we will soon lose everything our founding fathers fought for. We must celebrate 9-11 by aggressively defending our own country (as opposed to propping up democracy elsewhere).
